5th Grade Camp

This is a picture with my group doing the class wild life which is the last class we did before we left 5th grade camp. In this picture my group is standing by a tree named George. George is a oak tree that is named after George Washington.

My favorite thing about camp is going on the hikes because I get to see animals and learn about nature. One of my other favorite things about camp was the Recreation Time because we got to play Volleyball. It was boys against girls and the girls one almost every time.

Something I would change about camp is the sleeping part because every night on my side of the Dorms the girls would not stop talking and I couldn't get any sleep. The first night was loud and the 2nd night was quieter because everybody was so tired.

At about 6:00 it would be time to shower and after we showered we would go down to the fireplace room were one of the night activities were going on. The first night activities was when the string man came. (Mr. Reed) He caught us how to do lots of string figures like the Cup and saucer, the Eiffel tower, and Jacobs Ladder. One of the other night activities we did on the last night at camp was dissecting Owl Pellets. It was really nasty. We had to look for animals insides that the owl ate. Me and my partner Mara found 2 skulls and a rib cage and teeth.

I Had a really fun time at 5th grade camp and i wish that I could go back again.

In science last week my class and I made planes. It was my favorite science unit. In this picture we are testing out Foss Planes and finding the results. And one of the people in this picture is coming back from getting a new rubber band to test.

To make them we used small straws and large straws, and two Popsicle sticks. We had to sand both of the Popsicle sticks down on one end. Then we had to punch a hole in the straw we cut in half. After that we had to take the straw that we cut in half and stick it threw the medium straw. So at that point the plane would have two straws and on the top there would be one straw sticking threw the straw we cut in half. Next we took the two Popsicle sticks and made sure they were the same Length and that the sanded down part was even. Last we took the two Popsicle sticks and put them at the end of the cut in half straws. Then we stapled the Popsicle sticks together so that they were attached to the bottom of the straw also and then we were done making it. And last we had to put a propeller on the end of the sanded down Popsicle stick.

Now it was time to experiment. For the first experiment we had to use fishing string and tape that to one end of a chair using duke tape. Then we taped the other side of the string on to another chair and also used duke tape. On one end we had to take the tape off and stick the end of the string into the straw and put the tape back on the end. Then I had to get a rubber band to put on the end of the propeller piece and on the other end of the Popsicle stick. Then i twisted the propeller 30 times and held the plane to the very end of the chair and let go of the plane. The plane took off and stopped exactly at the other end without hitting the chair hard because if it hit the other chair hard you twisted it to many times. We tested with different types of rubber band. there was a thick green, blue, yellow, white, regular, and red. Then there was a thin green, blue, yellow, white, regular, and red rubber band. Me and my partners found that the thick yellow one worked for us best.

What I learned in this unit was that you can't change more then one variable at a time because you wont know what was making the experiment different.

Super Bowl

On Super Bowl Sunday me and my family always play
a game called squares. This year we had my grandparents
over. To play the game you need a poster board and you draw
squares. We draw 100 of them and this year there were 7 people
at my house so each person wrote their name in 14 squares and there
2 left over so we put my dogs name in them. Then you write the teams
name on the top and the other one down the side. But you have to leave
10 squares on the top open to write card numbers. You can put them in
a random order. You do thew same to the other side to. You put the
numbers in random order on the side to. After each quarter of the game
you look and see what the score is. Like if the score was 7-7 you put your
finger on each number and wait until your fingers meet. the persons name
that it lands on wins the quarter.
